Firing Up The Grill: Recipe, Class and Giveaways

Hello Everybody :0)  To get you ready for tomorrow's Virtual Cooking School Class, Firing Up The Grill,  I wanted to share a couple fabulous recipes.  The first is Surprise Burgers, found on AllRecipies.com a few years ago.
Here is what you need:
1 lb Ground Beef
4 Pineapple Rings

Sauce:
1/2c. Hunts Ketchup
1/2c. Brown Sugar
1 Tbs. Gulden's Spicy Mustard

To start, divide the ground beef into 4 equal parts.  This recipe yields 4 hamburgers.

Now, take one of those 4 parts, and divide the ground beef into two equal parts.

Smoosh one flat

Add a Pineapple ring and press it into the bottom layer of beef.

Then smoosh the second half of the ground beef on top.

See!?!  Our yummy little pineapple slice is tucked so snugly inside.

Pinch the edges together until the pineapple is completely sealed inside.

Continue with the remaining three hamburger portions.  We have more than four in our family so we had to double the recipe.  I like to place the patties on squares of wax paper or parchment so they are easier to pick up and get on the grill.

While my husband throws those burgers on the grill, let me share a recipe I just found yesterday on Pinterest!!!  Don't you just love Pinterest!?!
This recipe for Grilled Pineapple comes to us from SkinnyTaste.com.  I have tried several and this one is my favorite recipe ever.

In a smaller bowl mix:
2 Tbs. Dark Honey
1 tsp Olive Oil
1 Tbs Fresh Lime Juice
1 tsp. Ground Cinnamon

Clean up one pineapple.  Cut the top and bottom off, then cut away all of the pineapple skin.
Cut the yummy insides into 1/2" slices.

Brush the pineapple with the marinade we just made.  Now, to the Grill!
Pre-heat the grill and lightly spray the grill rack with cooking oil.

After 3-5 minutes on each side they come out looking like this...
Yummm...The cinnamon taste is fabulous with the pineapple.  We are definitely grilling this recipe again :0)

Now, when I said that the cooking school was going on, did I mention that the whole event is sponsored by the folks over at ConAgra Foods!?!  They are makers of great companions to any grilling recipe, like Ro-tel, Hebrew National, Hunt's Ketchup, Hunt's Canned Tomatoes, and Gulden's Mustard.

We use Hunt's Ketchup and Gulden's Spicy Mustard in our recipe for the Surprise Burgers.  Grab a sauce pan and mix together the 1/2 c. Hunts Ketchup, 1/2c. Brown Sugar, and the 1Tbs. of Gulden's Spicy Mustard on a heated stove until the sugar has disolved.

A-hem!  Eli!!!
I can't really blame him for trying to sneak a pineapple slice.  They smelled heavenly.  But if I can't have one til I am done taking pictures, neither can he!!!

Our burgers smelled so fabulous.  Ohhhhh how I LOVE to grill!  I have to admit, living in Arizona, we grill pretty much year round.

Time to eat...Finally :0)

Do you like my sloppy sauce drizzling while trying to take a picture?  You know, drizzles like this take skill, talent, and years of practice :0)

Somehow I managed to get sauce over the whole burger while looking through the viewfinder of my camera.  And was it ever delicious!  There you have it, Surprise Burgers with a homemade Barbecue sauce...
made from Hunt's Ketchup, Gulden's Mustard, and Brown Sugar.

The burgers got thumbs up all around the table...except for Eli who pulled the pineapple out of his burger.  Scott, bless his heart, said, "Why don't you cook like this every day?"  My family thinks I starve them.

Well, thanks to our Cooking School tomorrow on Grilling tips and recipes, I just might cook like this more often :0)

  1. Dang! I specifically took a late break at work so I could log in and I could never connect. Thought I'd share my recipe with you though. Take hot dog and split down the length (not all the way through. Stuff with cheese and sauerkraut. Wrap bacon around hot dog. Tight enough to keep the stuffing in but not too tight. You don't want the hot dog to plump and split the bacon. Then grill. Yum!
